My Lisa Eldridge Collection
Lisa Eldridge is one of my greatest Makeup Artist inspirations and has been for many years. I first encountered her around 2009 on the original series of 10 Years Younger, where she was the resident Makeup Artist on the show. She is now internationally renowned on the fashion and celebrity red carpet makeup scene and her style is right up my street (slight girl crush). She is one of the best Makeup Artists on the planet in my opinion.
Anyway, fast forward to November 2018 and I was so excited to learn that she was launching her own lipstick range. I have been collecting her lipsticks ever since which are only available to buy either once or twice a year. So for any makeup addict they are a real treat and collectors item as they are sold in limited quantities. In fact when she launched her Irresistible Pinks range, I missed out on one particular shade called Velvet Beauty and I had to wait a year to get my hands on one in the next launch, it was worth the wait though. I’m pleased to report I now have a complete set!! They are just a lovely thing to collect that I get a lot of enjoyment out of.
At the time of writing this, Lisa has just launched a fourth collection and released more of the original colours. So if you’re quick you will be able to buy them but once they’re gone they’re gone. I’ll include links below.
So, the first launch back in November 2018 were the True Red Velvets. They consist of Velvet Ribbon which is a vibrant true red with a hint of blue. Then there is Velvet Jazz which has an earthy brick tone inspired by vintage red lipstick. Last but not least (and my favourite of the three) is Velvet Morning which is an intense orange red Velvet Morning
The bullets are brushed gold and luxuriously beautiful with a magnetic click fastening. The outer sides of the lipsticks are made to look like velvet fabric and have a texture to them. As someone with dry lips I find them extremely comfortable to wear and although they are matt they have a creamy hydration to them, there’s non of that awful drying into the cracks of your lips. The pigment is unbelievable and is best I have found in a lipstick.
In July 2019 Lisa released the Irresistible Pinks collection consisting of four new shades. Love of My Life is a rose pink with a semi sheer satin finish. Go Lightly (currently unavailable), I would describe as a salmon pink which I really enjoyed wearing over the summer months as it was so fresh and summery and looked lovely against a slightly sun kissed skin. Rainbow Spill (currently unavailable) is a highly pigmented bright watermelon pink with a touch of neon. And last but not least is Skyscraper Rose which is a gorgeous fuchsia pink. It actually looks amazing with velvet ribbon on the outer part of the lip with this blended into the middle.
In November 2019 Lisa launched The New Velvets which consists of five nudes. First up is Velvet Fawn inspired by vintage nudes. It has the same texture as the red velvets as in it is matt and creamy. It’s a real nod to the 90’s supermodels era and what I love about it is it doesn’t make you look like you’ve just been dug up which is how I can look in certain nudes!! Not a look I’d recommend. Velvet Muse is a beautiful smokey rosewood nude. Velvet Beauty (my favourite of the collection) is a vibrant berry pink with blue undertones which makes your teeth look lovely and white! Velvet Myth is a gorgeously striking mulberry followed by Velvet Decade which is a beautiful burnt chocolate colour and the perfect nude for darker skin tones. Velvet Midnight is a deep rich blackberry.
Finally the newest collection which just launched a few weeks ago, I would describe as a mixture of burnt pinks and reds with one super vivid fuchsia. They consist of four new colours starting with Velvet Affair which is a golden caramel shade. Velvet Blush which is a berry pink and I think similar to Velvet Beauty. Velvet Dragon is my favourite in this release and is an unusual rusty red inspired by the red of Chinese lacquering. Velvet Carnival is a super vibrant fuchsia pop art pink.
So with a Covid vaccine well on its way, I thought a lipstick blog might be a hopeful piece with a glimmer of normality on the horizon which could involve our faces being fully on show again. Here’s hoping anyway.
Big love
